Version 0.1.0 of the BASICS Standard is now published. This initial release establishes stable rule identifiers and profile boundaries for the framework — a commitments system with testable obligations for tool development under real-world operational conditions.

The v0.1.0 release defines the five structural components of BASICS: the Shared Core (universal rules for commands, records, interoperability, versioning, and governance), the Software Profile, Hardware Profile, Firmware Profile, and the Operational Extensions pathway for formal deviations. Three conformance tiers are established: Core, Field, and Industrial. Mandatory requirements are binary pass/fail; optional controls use maturity scoring.

The governance model codified in v0.1.0 targets 100-day cycles from draft to decision. No requirement changes without community review. Every proposed change must include a migration impact assessment. Requirements sunset only with explicit replacement — never silently dropped.

The reference implementation for v0.1.0 is Workpads, which stress-tests the framework in production conditions: constrained devices, intermittent connectivity, mixed digital and paper workflows. BASICS will evolve as Workpads and subsequent tools expose gaps in the framework, with each revision maintaining backward-compatible stable identifiers.
